Construction Document Management:
Alberta Oil Sands Case Study

A major oil sands operator implemented Enterprise Engineer to manage its construction document management requirements and associated processes and to ensure as-builts are available to Operations & Maintenance.

The objective was to provide consistent business processes enabling the workforce to move easily between projects and sites. Standardization helped deal with shortfall in resources and improve construction document managment processes. Accurate validated as-built drawings required to be made available.

The expected cost savings resulting from aligned processes was over $5 million for one site alone.

Key functionality:

  • Controlled, auditable processes for the management of change of asset documents by external parties
  • Self service functionality to allow engineers to retrieve documents and drawings without involving Document Control department
  • Management of continuous submissions of documents and drawings from EPCs - thousands of documents and drawings received weekly that required to be reviewed and validated
  • Processing of multiple versions
  • Management of over 1 million documents and drawings
  • Integration with web based asset tag and document number allocation system
  • Integration with Bentley Lifecycle Server

Enterprise Engineer solutions are proven to reduce operational costs, lower the risk of non-compliance, improve efficiency and speed up engineering project execution by ensuring the integrity of asset and project documentation.
